The Artista Project Workshops
Open Acrylics is a new way of working with a new product. Open Acrylics resist the skinning that forms on your painting pallet when left open. This medium is a new unique product with relaxing property that facilitates blending, softening, shading, glazing and final detail. The unique characteristics of Open Acrylics allow them to be used with natural fiber brushes and for a range of techniques including monoprinting. It also allows painting as you have before but coming back the next day and blending colors or glazing. Collage is always easy to add for a different result.
GOLDEN MEDIUMS offer a range in consistency from pourable to sculptable with various levels of transparency and finish. Experimentation is recommended. They may be used to build texture, add interest to your paintings, and work as a glue agent for collage. Because there are so many mediums, an artist first needs to determine which characteristics they wish to achieve.
This class is open for all levels. In this class we will experiment with this new media. Each student will be met and pushed past their level.

This is a two day workshop based on the structure Ms. Denson has been using in her beginners’ class. It is designed for the person who wants to learn watercolors but their schedule has prevented them from taking classes. It is a fast but tightly organized approach to learning the basics of watercolor. She will start with brushes and paper (types, blocks, stretching, difference in watercolor brushes), then go to color wheel. Students will paint their own color wheel while doing even and graded washes. Students will spend more time on laying smooth washes if that is the problem (it usually is). Then Ms. Denson covers the various ways the paint is applied to paper and how that differs from oil and acrylic. Students then learn to mix grays and other colors using the three primaries. They will be given two drawings to transfer to 8x10 paper and paint them step by step. The first works on mixing grays and other colors from the three primaries. The second painting works on graded washes and glazing, using masking fluid, planning the use of color and contrast (dark/light –warm/cool--hard edge/soft edge).
The second day would work more on laying washes, mixing and mingling, textures, composition and basic color theory.

My philosophy of teaching!
I thoroughly enjoy teaching and sharing my enthusiasm for this incredible medium, ACRYLIC. I have worked with acrylic for over 20 years, and with Golden's products for that same 20 years. Seventeen of them actually working for Golden Artist Colors, Inc. Acrylic excites me with all the possibilities, all the varied ways, you can take one single gel, and create so many varied options. I love the discovery of this, and the searching for another twist to it. I love the materiality of the material, and often I let it lead me into experimentation.
Sharing this excitement and discovery with artists who are open to making messes with a willingness to find beauty in that mess, is contagious.
I am not interested in teaching anyone "how to paint". There are so many great teachers that have that particular skill. I'm interested in opening doors for exploration, for the artist to get a peek inside the options and for that artist to take these discoveries home, and make paintings. - Patty Brady
Cutting-edge Acrylic Techniques!
In a hands-on, workshop style, Painterly Mixed Media with a Twist demonstrates the staggering range of this oh-so-versatile medium, capable of delicate transparent washes, lively impasto surfaces, and radical multi-dimensional effects. Acrylics are compatible with a wide range of materials, allowing for a virtual explosion of mixed-media artworks. There are more mediums, gels and grounds available for acrylics than for any other painting medium, affording you inexhaustible opportunities for applying pouring, brushing, scraping, squirting, swishing, rolling, flinging, sanding and what-have-you.
Discover everything you need to know to purchase, mix and work with acrylics successfully. From there, launch into chapter after chapter of possibilities: water media effects, creating texture with gels, subtractive techniques, collage and acrylic skins, acrylic transfers, and more.
